4차산업혁명은 이미 시각예술작품의 창작은 물론 박물관·미술관의 기획과 운영에 깊숙이 들어와 있다. VR, AR, 사물인터넷, 인공지능, 3D 프린팅 등을 비롯해 이들의 기반기술이라고 할 수 있는 빅데이터에 이르기까지의 기술을 활용하는데 있어 그 어떤 예술분야보다도 박물관·미술관이 선도적으로 대응하고 있다.

물론 인공지능 안내 로봇 등의 등장으로 일자리 감소의 우려가 없는 것은 아니지만 거리상의 제약, 좁은 향유층 등의 한계들을 극복해야 하는 지역의 박물관·미술관으로서는 4차산업혁명이 오히려 새로운 기회가 될 수 있다. 하지만 아직까지 지역의 박물관·미술관에서 4차산업혁명의 주요기술들을 적극적으로 활용한 사례를 찾기는 쉽지 않다.

영월은 ‘지붕 없는 박물관’이라는 별칭이 붙을 정도로 역사의 흔적과 20여개가 넘는 박물관·미술관을 보유한 곳이다. 이제는 어느 정도 갖추어진 기본적 인프라를 바탕으로 4차산업혁명의 중심기술을 활용해 영월을 대표하는 모뉴먼트(monument)의 구축 방안을 모색해야 한다. 여기에는 초연결성(Hyper-connectedness)과 원격 현전(telepresence), 게임화(Gamification) 등의 추구를 통해 한 단계 진보한 관람 어메너티(amenity)를 구축하는 방안이 포함된다.

본고는 4차산업혁명 시대의 기술들을 지역, 특히 영월군의 박물관·미술관에 적용하는 방안을 모색하고자 한다. 이를 위해 먼저 영월군의 박물관·미술관 현황과 특징을 살펴보고, 4차산업혁명의 주요 기술들의 박물관·미술관 활용 사례들을 분석하여 이를 영월군에 적용하는 방안을 살펴볼 것이다.

The Fourth Industrial Revolution can be a new opportunity for local museums and art galleries to overcome limitations such as constraints of far distance from cities and narrow audience stratum. However, it is still difficult to find examples of active use of major technologies of the Fourth Industrial Revolution in museums and art galleries in the region.

This paper seeks to find ways to apply the technologies of the 4th Industrial Revolution era to local, especially Yeongwol museums and art galleries. To this end, the paper will examine the current status and characteristics of museums and art galleries in Yeongwol-gun, analyze the use cases of museum and art museum of major technologies of the 4th Industrial Revolution, and apply them to Yeongwol-gun.
